Overview
Library Search is a good place to start looking for information (especially books and journal articles) because it searches across multiple databases.
However, if you are looking for a specific type of information, this guide identifies key databases and resources relevant to the Performing Arts.
Performing Arts Databases
- Academic Video Online (ProQuest) This link opens in a new windowIncludes performance, tutorial and documentary videos. Use the 'Filter' option and select 'Subject' - 'Music and Performing Arts' to display all sub-categories. To access the separate National Theatre Company Collection or Broadway HD Collection, go to the menu icon on the top left and select 'Collections'.
- Arts and Humanities Database (ProQuest) This link opens in a new windowJournal collection covering a wide range of areas including literature, cultural studies, history, geography, anthropology and music.

- Humanities Source Ultimate (Ebscohost) This link opens in a new windowComprehensive database providing access to hundreds of journals, books and other published sources relevant to the field of humanities.
- Rock's Backpages This link opens in a new windowArticles, interviews and reviews from the world's best music writers and critics, from the late 1950s to the present day.
- Australian Opera Digital LibraryWide range of freely accessible content including production videos, interviews, media clippings, design drawings. You need to register for an account to access full-length production videos.
Video Databases
- Digital Theatre+ This link opens in a new windowProvides online access to a digital streaming video collection of unique films of current, leading British theatre productions. Includes behind-the-scenes documentaries as well as teaching and learning resources to facilitate a deeper understanding of the productions and texts. Learning resources include a detailed introduction, plot summary, character biographies, a relationship map, language analysis, scene study, performance background and historical context for each play. Updates vary.
- Academic Video Online (ProQuest) This link opens in a new windowMultidisciplinary video content drawn from documentaries, performances, feature films, interviews, newsreels and raw footage.
