Performing a search

  1. Enter your search terms into the search box. Then click on the SEARCH button.

  1. From the results list, find a resource of interest and click on the resource's title.

Some resources will not be available to students in Indonesia due to licensing restrictions, and will include the following note:

In our example, the article is not available at CQUniversity Indonesia via HeinOnline, but is available via Springer and ProQuest.

Search strategies

There are some techniques you can use to improve your online searches.

Phrase

This strategy will search for all of the words in the exact order you've typed them.

For example, this search will return records containing the phrase, asian criminology:

Truncation

This strategy will search for words with the same beginning but different endings.

For example, this search will return records containing a word beginning with letters before the asterisk, such as crime, crimes, criminal, criminals, or criminology:

Wildcard

?

This strategy is useful when you are searching for words with different spellings or unusual plurals.

For example, this search will return records containing the phrase, criminal behavior, or the phrase, criminal behaviour:

Narrow your search

AND

This strategy allows you to narrow the focus by adding more concepts to your search. 

For example, this search will return records containing both the word, criminology, and a word beginning with, australia.

Expand your search

OR

This strategy allows you to broaden your focus by adding more concepts to your search. 

For example, this search will return records with one or both phrases, asian criminology or australian criminology:

Brackets

(       )

This strategy allows you to group similar terms together.

For example, this search will return records containing both the terms criminology and asia, as well as records containing both the terms criminology and australia.
