Statistics can be a useful resource for finding trends about a particular industry.
Company statistics can be found in financial statements, annual reports or databases such as Ebscohost or Marketline. Relevant statistics may also be found on professional association websites.
Government statistical bulletins and digests can also be useful sources of aggregated financial and performance data. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) provides a range of publications on Business Demography (located under the section headed Themes - select the link Economy). A key ABS publication is Business Indicators (catalogue number 5676.0). You can search for this particular publication in the ABS site using the catalogue number or the keywords business indicators.
Industry related statistics can also be found in newspapers and journals, non-governmental organisation and professional association websites, market research reports and relevant government departments at local, state and federal levels.
