Library Search

What can I request?

Requests are for books from the print collections at each campus. If your campus library does not have a copy, or someone has already borrowed the book you want, you may be able to request it.

You can request:

  • Books from the General Collection at any campus
  • Textbooks from the Short Term Loan collection at your campus if you are an On campus student
  • Textbooks from the Distance Collection if you are a Distance student

Please Note: Books from Class Sets are reserved for VET students from specific classes. Other students will not be able to request them.

How do I request a book?

After you've found the book you want in Library Search and seen that it's not available at your campus:

  1. Click the Log in button in the yellow banner at the top of the Locations section of the book record .
  2. Log in with your CQUniversity username and password.

What happens after I request a book?

Your request goes into a queue. When it is your turn to borrow the book, the Library staff will put it aside for for you.

On campus students

  1. The book will be sent to your campus library.
  2. We will send an email to your student email address to let you know that it's ready to be collected.
  3. Come to the Library with your student card. It is also your library card for borrowing.
  4. Collect the book from the Holds shelf.
  5. Use the self-check machine to borrow the book. You'll get a receipt from the machine that tells you when the book is due back.

If you have trouble with the self-check machine, please ask for help at the library desk.

Distance Students

If you are a distance student, the book will be sent to your home address and we will include free return postage.

Keeping track of your requests

You can check your online Library Card to see where you are in the queue. The number is the number of people ahead of you. When it reaches 0, it's your turn.
